Europe biofuels program backfires as global warming policy — Clean Air Task Force

The online environmental news service Greenwire reports that, “A clean air advocacy group today joined the chorus of voices asking Congress to postpone expanding the biofuels mandate, pointing to a similar plan implemented by the European Union.”

The Greenwire story continues: “The Boston-based Clean Air Task Force argued in a report that Europe’s 2003 biofuels directive led to unexpected increases in greenhouse gas emissions, tropical deforestation and biodiversity loss.”

The Clean Air Task Force report, “Leaping Before They Looked: Lessons from Europe’s Experience with the 2003 Biofuels Directive,” is available here.
